Educational EvaluationsIn a society which views quality education as a priority, it is disheartening to see a child experiencing difficulty. Academic problems can be rooted in several sources. If your child is experiencing physical problems, you see a pediatrician or a specialist such as an eye doctor. If he/she has been through emotional trauma, you seek the advice of a counselor or psychologist. But what do you do for the child who seems to be trying but can’t make it all work? How do you tell the difference between a work attitude problem and a learning problem? What if you’re dealing with a little of both? And more importantly, what can you do to correct the problem once it has a name? If your child is experiencing difficulty in school, an educational evaluation could be helpful in pinpointing specific needs. An educational evaluation is not a psychological evaluation. Our evaluation is not referred to as psychological testing. Helen is not a psychologist. She is an educational consultant with a background in learning disabilities, curriculum development and teaching. Helen has been a classroom teacher and principal in both elementary and high schools. She has helped schools throughout the United States establish special programs for students of all ages with learning differences. She works with parents to determine the best methods and strategies for helping their children. An educational evaluation is a close look at some of the major factors which affects a student’s performance in the classroom. Our evaluation gathers information about the student’s academic background, physical background, processing skills, learning style and work perspective. These findings are combined with information provided by the parents in an interview, and comments from the classroom teacher. Our goal is to give you, the parent, an overview of your child’s learning strengths and weaknesses, and practical strategies for helping your child. The ProcessOn the day of the evaluation, at least one parent accompanies their child. The parent(s) are involved in an interview while the child is working with Helen. After the evaluation is completed, Helen will sit down with the parents and review the findings. An audiocassette is made of all the information presented in the evaluation. This makes it possible for everyone working with the student to hear the findings of the evaluation first hand. After the evaluation, Helen is available to answer additional questions or give additional suggestions by phone to anyone working with the student at no additional charge. Approximately four weeks after the evaluation, the parents will receive a written summary of the testing via email as an Adobe PDF file. If you do not have Adobe Acrobat, you may contact us for more information on how to obtain a free version online. The CostThe total cost for the evaluation is $635.00. Once the student is registered, the first $75.00 is to be mailed to Westar Educational Services within 5 days. This is a deposit which confirms and holds the designated date. The remaining $560.00 is due on the day of the evaluation. It can be paid with cash or check.
